Using Privacy by Design to Tackle GDPR

If there’s anything that grappling with GDPR compliance has taught us, it’s that untangling the web of which party collected, shared or monetized a specific user’s identifier can be challenging.

And if it was tough for our industry’s collective think-tank of publishers, platforms, and advertisers, imagine what it must be like for an individual user trying to manage their own privacy online.

We did.

In fact, we spent the past year studying both the industry’s existing privacy framework and the user experience of managing consent and transparency. So after examining our own pipes and processes through a “privacy by design” lens, we’re excited to announce the launch of our new GDPR-compliant, self-serve privacy management offering.

The 33Across User Data Portal gives consumers the ability to view any personal data that we’ve collected for advertising purposes, and immediately delete ALL of it with one-click.

It’s a first-of-its-kind tool that provides the full breadth of functionality and transparency required by GDPR — with a very simple user flow. It’s a contrast from the current “industry standard” that forces people to submit a form or email (thus surrendering more personal information) and waiting 30 days for a response.

You can learn more about our GDPR compliance efforts here. In the meantime, we’re excited to be scaling with our European publishing and advertising partners again, and we look forward to helping them monetize and reach the right audiences, respectively, while staying privacy-compliant every step of the way.
